If everyone can spare just one hour it would be very much appreciated. We need to make the event fun for us...so if its nice we can maybe put up some simple stunts and we need to do a little chant! Wear your uniforms so everyone that has them please bring them! If you are a flyer bring your trainers!

Match Team/Feeder Squad

For anyone who wants to learn how to cheer or just simply want to cheer for the American footballers, match/feeder team practice will be on Fridays 5-7pm and is starting next week (12th) in sports hall 3.

Just to remind you, this team is for the people that want to stunt but did not make a team or who are not as interested in the competitive side of cheerleading. Match/feeder team cheers for the American footballers and has amazing socials but also, this year, will do some stunting but won't go to competitions. Matches are on a Sunday and last for a couple of hours and we cheer for the American footballers, and do a short half time routine. You'll get to meet all the American Footballers, who are really lovely, and we have really fun socials together on the night time. Attending every practice and match isn't compulsory but the boys really do appreciate us cheering for them and like to see a big turnout! Please send back an email to leeds_uni_cheerleaders@hotmail.com ASAP saying if you'll be interested in match/feeder team, as if you don't reply, and are not on the trial team list, you will not receive any further emails from cheerleading. Looking forward to seeing you!

UNIty Allstars Trials 2007

UNIty Allstars is one of the UK’s largest Co-ed cheer squads, representing university and graduate cheerleading from across the UK. The current 06/07 squad members represent over 15 university and allstar teams. The majority of our members also train and compete with another team alongside UNIty.

We are pleased to announce that the trial date for UNIty Allstars for the 2007/2008 season is Saturday October 20th.

Trials will be held in Milton Keynes, and will be a whole day event. They will consist of 4 main sections to give you a chance to show your skills in stunts, dance, jumps and tumbling. The trial dance will be posted on video online 2 weeks in advance of the tryouts and all attendees will be expected to learn it fully before arriving. Forms and finance information for the year will be released at that stage.
(Please note you will need to bring a passport photo.)

Milton Keynes Cheerleading Gym
Manor Farm
Farthingstone
Towcester
NN12 8EZ

Please note that the gym is located in a rural area and we strongly advise you get very good directions (or preferably use sat nav) and leave plenty of time to arrive!

(From the North take junction 18 of the M1 and then follow signs for A5 milton Keynes and you take a right and stay on the road and it takes you straight there. From the South if you take junction 15A that brings you directly into Towcester and we are 10 minutes off that roundabout.)

UNIty Allstars train one weekend a month (in Milton Keynes, as above). Anyone who tries out for UNIty and is successful must be able to make all training weekends without fail. Confirmed training weekends for 2007 are as follows:

October 20th – Unity 2007-2008 trials
October 27th/28th,
November 24th/25th,
December 15th/16th,
January 5th/6th
February 2nd/3rd
February 16th/17th - Heart of England competition
March 1st/2nd
March 29th/30th
April 7th - 15th - USA trip
May 3rd/4th
May 31st/June 1st
June 28th/29th
July 5th/6th - Nationals

Trials will be run professionally, but will also be lots of fun and a chance to meet fellow athletes and current members! However, we do ask that you please only attend this year if you are seriously interested in making the team as space in the gym is limited.

You must be a current university level student or graduate in order to try out.

Important Information RE: Team UK 07

For all those who are participating in this years Team UK from Celtics, please take note:

"We apologise for the delay in passing on information regarding Team UK, however since the auditions there have been a number of developments which have delayed our plans.

In particular the UKCA has withdrawn from membership of the IFC. We will not therefore be sending teams to the IFC Competition in Finland this November.

However we are pleased to announce that the UKCA has become a member of the USASF and Team UK have been invited to attend and compete in the USASF World Cheer and World Dance Championships, Florida, USA, which will take place 25th/26th April 2008.

As previously announced Team UK Cheer/Dance teams will be coached by International Coaches.

As with many other sports, being part of a National Team will incur some costs. This amount will be confirmed at your first training session.

The first training session will now take place no sooner than October. We ask that in the meantime all Team members continue to prepare themselves mentally and physically for the task ahead by regular training and conditioning sessions.

As soon has we have training dates/venues/costs confirmed we will contact you again.

Any future correspondence regarding Team UK should be directed to the Management Team on team.uk_ukca@yahoo.co.uk – rather than the UKCA Head Office address. If you need to discuss an important and urgent matter we can be contacted by mobile during office hours, Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm.

ICC Comp, Celtic Extreme

Welcome to the elite allstars that are Celtic Extreme. So far the team consists of:

Mike, James, Tats, Tim, Beth, Jo H, Soph, Nat, Allie, julie, Rach, and Kate Moran.

We may also have the pleasure of Carly Reddington and Hannah Harvest, so if you girls could get back to me ASAP (before Wednesday) about doing it it would be appreciated.

The routine will pretty much be same as the old allstars except smaller and with the dance and chant re-arranged/re-choreographed. Plus a couple of new skills that we've recently learner.

I'll send you out a 'routine plan' on Wednesday so that you can come to training with the routine in your head already.

Training on Thursday: meet inside the union foyer at 6 to go over the amended dance/routine and then in the sports hall 7-8 doing stunts. I know some of you have said you cannot make this due to work etc ..., but please try and be there. If you can't, then tell me and I'll have to organise a catch up session with you.

On Friday we will be travelling down to Loughborough for 2pm. If you can't make it, please tell me the EARLIEST (note: not the most convenient) time you can get to Loughborough on Friday ASAP.

We're assuming we have enough houses/friends in Loughborough and Nottingham to stay down there Friday.

See you on Thursday, Tim

Unity Allstars

This weekend there are try-outs for UNIty allstars, a team made up of the best/potentially best univeristy cheerleaders. The tryouts are in Nottingham, and will last from 11-5pm where we will stunt, learn and perform a short dance, do some jumps and tumble (if you can). The team will then train one weekend a month, and compete and perform at the end of the year, and should be a lot of fun and extremely kick ass.

Please don't be put off by the 'try-outs' tag. Saturday should just be good fun and you'll get to meet lots of fun people and learn new stuff. On saturday we're going to meet at the Parkinson steps at 9AM so that we get to Nottingham well in time, and should be back in Leeds 6:30/7pm. At the moment we have 23 people going, and 5 cars, so to make sure there's space for everyone:
1) if you're driver and drop out please tell me ASAP so I can make alternate arrangements.
2) if you are coming but haven't spoken to me yet please get in touch so I can make sure we have space to take you.

Lastly, we're going to have optional extra practice session

friday evening (20th Oct)

to prepare for the try-outs It'll be at

Holt Park leisure center, 7-9pm.

The easiest way to get there is take the No 1 bus all the way to the end of the line. Alternatively, put LS16 7QD into multimap.com, or go up to Otley road, drive/walk past boddington, take the third left and it's in the same building as ASDA). We'll need to pay for the hall, but it should only cost £1-2 each.

This session will mainly to give new people a crash course in jumps and motions, but also get flyers and bases time to practice more advanced skills like partner stunts and basket tosses etc ... Again this is optional, but everyone is welcome, even if you aren't coming to try-outs.

If your interested either e-mail me (TIM) smackhollywood@hotmail.co.uk, call on 07875 078 695, or speak to me on Friday.

If you are coming on saturday, the organisers need you to fill in an application form (click here) They also want a photo to go with/on the form.

Southern Classics Competition

Everyone on a team will be competing!
katie has sent you all out an email about the competition in brighton on 3rd december. if you are going to be competing then can you please bring £17 to your next practice, this is for competition entry. this is really good value as its usually around £30 per cheerleader. if u haven't got BCA membership yet (alll new team members and anyone who didnt go to telford or nottingham last year) then you need to bring £23 (to include your six pounds mem. fee). one last thing, anyone who hasnt yet paid their £30 membership fee be a member of the team HAS to do so at practice this week. its really important that u remember to pay all of this or we wont be able to enter the competition and you will not be covered by our insurance. thanks,
Laura xxx

Hey everybody,

Well done to everyone for making it through tryouts and I hope everyone has enjoyed there first week of practises! For those of you who don't know, our first competition is on sunday 3rd December in Brighton, so keep this date free! If anybody knows they can't make this you need to let Anastasia know as soon as possible. To take part in this competition you will need BCA membership so for all you newbies please can you bring in 4 passport photos, a photocopy of ID (eg driving liscence) and a cheque for £6 to your next practise. This is valid for 5 years so you won't need to pay for it again and please can you put your name on the back of the photos as I don't know everybodies faces yet! If you were previously on another team and already have BCA membership can you please let me know your BCA number.
Love Katie x x x

It's Tim here

Hi guys,

I mentioned this at the last practice but thought I would get it all down in a e-mail as well. Basically, there's a new organisation called the British University Cheerleading Federation which is starting a University Allstar team called UNIty allstars. It will hopefully be made up of the best university cheerleaders, will train once a month and will compete and perform at competitions towards the end of the year.

There are tryouts a week on Saturday in Nottingham and Sunday down in Hertfordshire, the 21st and 22nd of October, and I know a group of us will definitely be going to Nottingham on the Saturday. The try-outs will be from 11 'til 5 and will involve a good couple of hours of stunting, learning and performing a dance, jumps and (if you can) do some tumbling. The try outs will cost a mighty £3, plus obviously we need to get to Nottingham/Herts, but hopefully we can all just pitch in for petrol money.

Please don't be put off by the "best university cheerleaders" tag as the coaches are looking for both skilled experienced people, AND new people with potential, so even if you haven't got much experience please don't be put off as you could be what they are looking for.

It a Co-ed team, so the more guys the better, but at the same time the coaches are looking for a range skills so if you fancy it please give it a go. Best not to think of it as a 'try-out', at the end of the day it's a chance to spend a day cheerleading, learn lots of new stuff from good coaches, meet people from a load of different teams and universities, and have some fun.

If your interested either e-mail smackhollywood@hotmail.co.uk, call on 07875 078 695, or grab me next practice as I have more information including registration forms to give out.

See you all soon,
Tim

P.S. I'd like to thank everyone who made it to the bottom of this e-mail by giving you a few cheerleading video clips to check out.

UNIty Allstars Tryouts

Everyone should tryout!!

Unity trials
We are looking for highly motivated, talented cheerleaders to advance British cheerleading as part of the first and only dedicated Level 6 squad in the country. A great wealth of experience is not mandatory - we are also looking for potential and the cheerleaders of the future. Trials are free if you attended the BUCF conference in Birmingham over the summer but will cost the small sum of £3.00 if you didn't - even if you have only recently started cheerleading please come along and give it a go; if nothing else, you may well make new friends and, more importantly, improve your skills as a result!

Trials for the North of England are on Saturday the 21st of October:
Nottingham Trent University - 11am to 5pm
Trials for the South of England are on Sunday the 22nd of October:
The University of Hertfordshire - 11am to 5pm

All are welcome, regardless of experience. We are looking for stunters, tumblers, dancers and jumpers or any combination of the above (please note, tumbling is NOT essential but if you can then great!) The judging panel will consist of UNIty AllStar coaches Ant and Tori from the BUCF board, as well as a guest judge to retain impartiality in the form of Angela Brown, head coach of the Ascension Eagles. Trials will take the form of a cheer clinic, with proper panel judging of groups, pairs or individuals as becomes necessary. Cheerleaders will learn and perform a short dance/motion routine, take part in a stunting session, tumble if able and perform a toe touch, a pike jump, a herkie, and another jump of their choice.

We do expect commitment from all those who are successful but we also anticipate a lot of fun. Training will be one weekend a month in Birmingham (Saturday and Sunday morning), with occasional local sessions in other major centres around England. The proposed first competition will be FC Scotland in May, as it is unlikely that many university squads will be entering, thus avoiding clashes under the double duty rule. The squad will also perform exhibition routines at various other competitions.

If you wish to attend trials please email your name and/or the names of those from your team indicating which session you will be attending to bucf@hotmail.co.uk
If you have any further questions or would like more information please don't hesitate to contact us.
